About water resource education
The water management districts in Florida have established the following water resource education goals:
- To nurture a greater awareness and appreciation of Florida’s watersheds and their ecosystems
- To increase public understanding of Florida’s water resources and the interdependence between humans and their water resources
- To develop a sense of stewardship for water resources and natural systems
- To promote responsible actions for the health, protection and use of Florida’s water resources
To achieve these goals, each water management district individually and jointly will perform the following functions on an ongoing basis:
- Identify needs for water resource education materials and programs
- Develop, disseminate and evaluate consistent and accurate information, materials and programs on water concepts and principles and on the role of the water management districts and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection
- Facilitate and support water resource education in schools and communities
- Coordinate and encourage water resource education efforts among local governments, agencies, organizations and individuals in Florida
The mission of the water resource education section is to deliver educational programs that further the above goals and enhance public stewardship of Florida’s water resources in the 18 counties within the District. These programs are geared either to youth or adults.
