Lake Norris Conservation Area
Size:
3,660 acres.
Location:
In eastern Lake County, on the west side of Lake Norris Road, north of County Road (CR) 44A.
Description:
The Lake Norris Conservation Area was purchased to protect the extensive hardwood swamp that lies on the western shore of the lake and the shoreline of Black Water Creek, a major tributary of the Wekiva River. Lake Norris is a spectacular darkwater lake that supports an impressive number of osprey. Staff at the Boy Scout Camp located on the northern shore of the lake have reported counting more than 100 active nests in the cypress trees that ring the lake. The upland portion of the conservation area consists of improved pasture, scrub and a small amount of planted pine.
Wildlife viewing:
A habitat for many animals and birds dependent on a wetlands environment, this property expands the Florida black bear corridor. Also found here are osprey, gopher tortoises, alligators and various types of snakes.
Recreational activities:
- Hiking, wildlife viewing, nature study, fishing, horseback riding, bicycling and canoeing. more info
- Primitive camping by permit from the Lake County Water Authority (LCWA).
- Rental canoes are available by contacting the LCWA.

Access:
From State Road (SR) 19, turn east on SR 42 and south on SR 439. Turn east on CR 44A and drive 4.5 miles to Lake Norris Road. Turn north and drive 2.5 miles to the entrance on the west side of the road.
